Barry is a veteran of 40 years in retail banking, the majority in payment cards and the centralised delivery of retail banking products. Having joined Barclays Bank in 1971, he retired in 2004 as Managing Director, Barclaycard International, and joined the Pan-African banking group, Standard Bank, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He retired in 2009 as Global Head of Cards. Additionally, he has extensive experience as a Non-Executive Director and Committee Member and has been a member of global strategic boards for VISA, MasterCard and HNC. Whilst at Standard Bank he served as Chairman of Diners Club Africa.

Barry has extensive experience of both card issuing and acquiring with particular focus on strategy, risk management, launches of both new products and new markets. During his time at Barclaycard and Standard Bank he was responsible for launching and leading payment card businesses in more than 50 Countries across four Continents.

Barry Fergus, Founder & Senior Consultant

Since co-founding Fergus Consulting in 2009, Barry has been working with card industry experts to deliver services to clients throughout the world, including the UK, South Africa, India and the Netherlands. After living for many years in Northamptonshire, Barry now resides near Llangollen in North Wales.

In collaboration with our wide Associate network, at the core of Fergus Consulting is the Father and Son founder who can claim a combined 55 years of experience in financial services, risk management and business leadership.

A graduate of the Manchester Business School in Managements Sciences and Marketing, Andrew began his career at Barclaycard as part of the European Expansion Programme before joining the MBNA Corporation in Wilmington, DE, USA. He graduated from MBNA’s renowned Management Development Programme before transferring to MBNA Europe Bank, headquartered in Chester in the North of England.

At MBNA, Andrew gained leadership experience across Operations and Risk Management, leading teams and strategy in Application Processing, Lending Policy, Credit Acquisition Strategies, Risk Detection, Credit Exposure Management, Collections Strategies and Collections Operations. He left MBNA shortly before the acquisition by Bank of America.

Andrew Fergus, BSc MCIM, Founder & Consultant

In 2005, Andrew founded the Fergus Martin group of companies and serves as Group Managing Director to this day, overseeing businesses in the Hospitality, Retail and Construction industries.

In September 2009, he co-founded Fergus Consulting Limited and has worked with clients in financial services, utilities, creative design and agriculture. He is a member of the Federation of Small Businesses and the Chartered Institute of Management. He lives near Wrexham in North Wales.
